When will an awarding body send my qualification?
Before an awarding body can issue your new certificate, you must successfully complete your studies and pass an assessment and validation process. Simply, your tutor will mark all your work, which will be sent out to an external moderator. The moderator is someone who checks your work against the learning outcomes of your course, pre-set by the awarding body. Outcomes help them identify what qualifications they'll receive when they graduate. Every student worldwide goes through this process.
Once you've passed your assessment, we'll get in touch with the relevant awarding body to send your certificate. Depending on the awarding body's availability, this can take a couple of months. However, qualifications have been sent to graduates in as little as a week. Should you require your qualification, let's say, for a job application, we can send out a confirmation letter. This letter will have your student number and the relevant awarding body to contact to evidence your success.
Learn more about our awarding bodies.
What are awarding bodies?
Awarding bodies are specialist organisations that design and deliver your well-deserved qualifications, certificates, diplomas, and awards. What qualification is CeMAP equivalent to?
CeMAP (Certificate in Mortgage Advice and Practice) is an RQF “Level 3 qualification”, awarded by the London Institute of Banking & Finance. This means CeMAP can also be attained by completing an alternative Level 3 mortgage qualification, followed by one additional module – Advanced Mortgage Advice (AMA).
What’s the difference between a mortgage advisor and mortgage broker?
There’s essentially no difference between a mortgage advisor and a mortgage broker. While the specifics of the job descriptions may vary, the primary function of both mortgage advisors and mortgage brokers is the same – to find customers the right mortgage for their circumstances.
How long does it take to gain a CeMAP qualification?
Students have up to 12 months to complete their studies and gain their CeMAP qualification, however certification is typically achieved in much less time, with the average CeMAP student at Oxbridge becoming a CeMAP certified mortgage advisor in approximately 4 months.
What is CeMAP?
CeMAP stands for Certificate in Mortgage Advice and Practice. It’s a mortgage advisor qualification and certification that’s approved by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), and is widely requested by employers in the financial industry. In short, it’s the UK’s “industry standard” mortgage advisor qualification, and a must-have for those looking to enter the industry.
What finance courses should I take?
That depends on your current training and where you want your career to take you. For example, if you don’t have any financial qualifications, we’d suggest studying an A-level in economics.
Once you’ve gained a solid foundation, you can progress onto more specialised courses such as business finance.
One of our most popular finance-related courses is the CeMap mortgage advisor course, specifically designed for individuals entirely new to the mortgage industry. Upon completing the course, you’ll receive a ‘licence to practice’ thanks to the course’s FCA accreditation.
If you don’t quite know which course is right for you, speak to one of our learning advisers, who would be happy to help.
How can I self-study to be a mortgage adviser?
There are multiple ways to gain a finance-related qualification; however, more and more people are drawn to self-study. This avenue gives you much more control over your learning. You don’t have to schedule your work and personal life around attending a brick and mortar school or be held back by others who aren’t picking things up as quickly as you.
The easiest way to self-study a finance course is to do it online. That way, you have 24-hour access to high-quality learning materials at any time or place and can schedule a virtual one-to-one whenever you require additional help or support.

Why is health and social care important?
While all roles differ, those working in health and social care provide an invaluable service to people within the community. They often offer support – either emotional, physical, or social – that allows people in need to continue to live a normal and fulfilling life. Some roles also help protect vulnerable members of society from abuse.
Health and social care is a varied, interesting and incredibly rewarding career path that can involve working with the very young through to the very old, while helping those in need navigate a diverse range of situations.
What is a health and social care course?
Health and social care is an umbrella term for courses that focus on helping others. Just some of the subjects that fall under this remit include retirement planning, diabetes care in children and young people, and mindfulness.
This means that once you’re qualified in general health and social care, your career can evolve as your interests do. You can practice a specific specialism and then pivot to another when and if you feel that you want to do something different but don’t want to retrain entirely. You really can carve your own health and social care career path.
What is Functional Skills Level 1 equivalent to?
All Level 1 Functional Skills courses are equivalent to a GCSE English grade 1 to 3 (previously D to G).
Level 2 Functional Skills are equivalent to a GCSE grade 4 (previously grade C).
Should I enrol on a Level 1 or Level 2 Functional Skills course?
This is entirely up to you. If you already have some knowledge in your chosen area of study, you may wish to start with Level 2. If you’d prefer to begin with the basics, then you may choose to start with a Level 1 Functional Skills course.
Do I need to complete a Level 1 Functional Skill before starting Level 2?
No. If you already have some knowledge in your chosen area of study you are welcome to enrol straight onto a Level 2 Functional Skills course. You do not need to complete a Level 1 Functional Skills course before starting Level 2.
Why study functional skills with Oxbridge?
You can study any of our functional skills courses online in the comfort of your own home, at your own pace, making it the perfect option if you have a full-time job or specific family commitments.
When you invest in a functional skills distance learning course, you’ll gain access to expert tutors who are on hand to help every step of the way. We take pride in the quality of our courses and have a fantastic student pass rate.
If you’re unsure which level you should take first, speak with one of our learning advisers. They’ll love to help.
How long do functional skills take to complete?
You have up to six months to complete a functional skills course at level one or two or a bundle covering both. However, our students generally complete these courses in two-to-four months. As you can see, you are given plenty of time to get through whichever functional skills course you opt for.
How many times can you take functional skills courses?
As many times as required. While the structure of our courses and the support of our expert tutors means that most students pass first time, all functional skills courses can be taken and retaken as many times as needed.
Where courses have individually graded units, if just one unit is failed, you only need to retake that unit in order to gain your certification.
Do employers like functional skills?
Yes, functional skills qualifications look good to employers. While GCSEs are the “standard” employers ask for, many will happily accept functional skills qualifications in their place.
This is due to the courses’ focus on teaching real-world problem-solving skills.
Do Universities accept functional skills?
Most UK Universities accept level 2 functional skills qualifications in place of GCSEs, with a level 2 functional skills qualification recognised as a direct equivalent to a GCSE grade C and above.
It's often course-dependent, so we advise that you check with your intended university or future provider that they are happy to accept Functional Skills courses, just to be sure.
Are key skills the same as functional skills?
Key skills and functional skills refer to the same set of qualifications. While they are often used interchangeably, today “key skills” are officially known as “functional skills”. Functional skills were first introduced in 2010 and formerly replaced key skills in 2012.
What comes under functional skills / core skills?
Functional skills courses cover either Maths, English or ICT. You can also invest in bundles such as maths and English combined. All subjects are separated into two levels, although you don’t have to take a level 1 course to progress onto level 2.
What is a functional skills qualification?
Functional skills teach students specific competencies that can be attributed to daily life. Although level 2 functional skills qualifications are given the same merit as a GCSE course, it can be argued that these are even more important, as they don’t operate on theoretical knowledge but on ways to navigate real-world situations.

What is an awarding body?
An awarding body is a professional organisation that sets the standards of education for different course subjects. They decide on the acceptable standard of work required by learners to achieve certification. At Oxbridge, we have regular external visits from each of the awarding bodies to ensure that we are meeting their criteria as an education provider; this allows us to continue offering their accredited and official qualifications.
When will I receive my certificate?
We, as a college, try hard to ensure you have received your certificate within 10-12 weeks, however in certain circumstances, this can be delayed when dealing with the Awarding Bodies associated with your course. If it gets to 12 weeks since completion and you have yet to receive your certificate, please call the college and we will happily investigate this for you. When your certificate arrives, we advise you to scan it to keep your own digital copy. This will be useful if employers ask to see your certificates.
Your certificate will first be sent directly to the Oxbridge offices within the national time frames that each of the awarding bodies works. Once we receive your certificate, we will post the original certificate to the home address you gave us upon enrolment. It is extremely important that you inform us if your address changes whilst you are a student at Oxbridge. It will cost you £55 per certificate to replace. However, this price may increase or decrease depending on the awarding bodies. The cost of replacement also includes administration and postage fees.
What happens when I am struggling to meet the course timeframe?
We understand that things happen in life that might impact your study plans. For example, money, children, and work can often take priority and it is easy to fall behind on your course. Firstly, try not to worry; contact your tutor and let them know about your situation. Your tutor is there to support you and will be able to rearrange targets to make a more realistic timeframe for achieving your qualification.

We will do all we can to help you get back on track to reaching your goals.
If you have a health condition or an immediate problem that is affecting your ability to continue, you should contact our student support team straight away. They may be able to temporarily pause your course so that you can focus on your priorities and then continue studying when you are able to. However, if you reach the end of your course duration and still need more time to complete the work, there will be a fee to extend your tutor support and mark any remaining work.
If I complete the course quicker than the payment plan, do I need to continue paying?

Once you have submitted your assignments, your tutor has up to two weeks to mark your work and provide feedback, although this will often be sooner. Depending on the type of course you are studying, you will either have your work graded to the national framework, or you will receive a pass or a referral. If your work is referred, this means you need to resubmit your work after taking onboard your tutor’s feedback and making improvements.
How do I submit assignments?
Once you enrol on a course with us, your assignments will be clearly highlighted in your course content throughout your learning journey. When you have completed a unit or set piece of work, these will need to be uploaded to the MyOxbridge portal We encourage electronically sending your assignments instead of posting as it saves a lot of trees! What is an assessment?
An assessment is how we measure your learning and academic progress throughout the course. The grading of your assessment is determined by how well you have mastered certain target skills required for the task set. Assessments are extremely valuable for tutors as they indicate how much of the course material you have mastered, or if there is anything you have misunderstood. Using this information will allow your tutor to develop your learning plan to keep you on track for achieving a good overall result. Assessments can be in many formats such as multiple-choice questions, quizzes, observations, and witness statements.
Can I purchase just the exam?
At Oxbridge, we believe the combination of our unique support and bespoke learning platform, MyOxbridge allows our students to achieve high pass rates. For this reason, we do not offer exams on their own.
