What qualifications do you need to become a mortgage advisor?

What is a mortgage advisor course?

A mortgage advisor course trains individuals in mortgage products, financial regulations, client assessment, and advisory skills for home financing.

What qualification is CeMAP equivalent to?

CeMAP (Certificate in Mortgage Advice and Practice) is an RQF “Level 3 qualification”, awarded by the London Institute of Banking & Finance. This means CeMAP can also be attained by completing an alternative Level 3 mortgage qualification, followed by one additional module – Advanced Mortgage Advice (AMA).

What’s the difference between a mortgage advisor and mortgage broker?

There’s essentially no difference between a mortgage advisor and a mortgage broker. While the specifics of the job descriptions may vary, the primary function of both mortgage advisors and mortgage brokers is the same – to find customers the right mortgage for their circumstances.

How long does it take to gain a CeMAP qualification?

Students have up to 12 months to complete their studies and gain their CeMAP qualification, however certification is typically achieved in much less time, with the average CeMAP student at Oxbridge becoming a CeMAP certified mortgage advisor in approximately 4 months.

What finance courses should I take?

That depends on your current training and where you want your career to take you. For example, if you don’t have any financial qualifications, we’d suggest studying an A-level in economics. Once you’ve gained a solid foundation, you can progress onto more specialised courses. Upon completing the course, you’ll receive a ‘licence to practice’ thanks to the course’s FCA accreditation. There are multiple ways to gain a finance-related qualification; however, more and more people are drawn to self-study. This avenue gives you much more control over your learning. The easiest way to self-study a finance course is to do it online. Is CeMAP equivalent to a degree?

How many times can you fail CeMAP?

There are no limits on the amount of attempts you can make to gain a CeMAP qualification. You will only have to resit the units you failed.

How many hours do mortgage advisors work?

On average, Mortgage Advisors work between 35 and 40 hours per week. You may work from an office or work from the comfort of your own home.

How long is the mortgage advisor course?

How long does it take to get a CeMAP?

On average, people take between 3 and 12 months to complete CeMAP.

A CeMAP qualification does not expire. Once you have completed your course you will have the qualification for life.

Do you need to be good at maths to be a Mortgage Advisor?

You will need basic maths knowledge as well as customer service skills to become a Mortgage Advisor.

Can you be a Mortgage Advisor without CeMAP?

No – to become a Mortage Advisor it is mandatory to complete a CeMAP Mortgage Advisor course.

Can I put CeMAP after my name?

Yes, once you have fully completed your studies you can legally put CeMAP after your name. It will serve as an indicator that you are indeed fully qualified.

Can anyone be a mortgage advisor?

Yes, you do not necessarily need a degree to become a mortgage advisor. Completing a CeMAP will enable you to pursue a career as a Mortgage Advisor.
