Mortgage advisers help people to find and apply for a mortgage when they are buying a property. It is often one of the most exciting but also stressful times of people’s lives.

As a mortgage adviser, you would assess your client’s finances with them to see how much money they can afford to borrow. You would then help them to make their mortgage application.

If you want to help people make financial decisions, and you can explain complex things clearly and simply, this job could be for you. You would also need to be motivated to hit your sales targets. You would be working in a customer’s best interests, finding the best mortgage based on their unique situation and finances, and guiding them through the whole process.

The combination of regulations, standards, interest rates and mortgage products that are available is nothing short of a minefield for anyone that doesn’t have the know-how, which is why the mortgage advice profession is such a crucial one.

Do you want to become a qualified CeMAP mortgage adviser?

If your goal is to work as a mortgage adviser, or mortgage broker, this course will help you achieve that aim. The CeMAP® meets standards set by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) for those aiming for a ‘licence to practice’. CeMAP® which stands for ‘Certificate in Mortgage Advice and Practice’ is the industry standard qualification held by mortgage advisers in the UK.

Since the CeMAP® qualification was first introduced during the late 1990’s this course is considered the benchmark qualification. This course has been designed to meet regulatory requirements and all the demands of a career within financial services. If you want to train as a mortgage adviser, it will help if you have GCSEs in English and maths, don’t worry if you haven’t we can help with these also.

You could work for banks, building societies, estate agents, firms of mortgage brokers and insurance brokers in most places in the UK. You could also work as an independent mortgage adviser and with experience, you could manage a team of mortgage advisers, or you could choose to become a self-employed independent adviser. As a mortgage adviser working for a company, you will usually be paid a basic salary plus commission. Popularly, a salary package may also include car allowance, insurance and pension benefits. As an independent adviser, you will be paid either by fees or commission or a mix of both.

According to the National Career Service, you could earn up to £70,000 a year (including commissions). The Guardian reported a 30% increase in mortgage lending between February 2015 and 2016. Course Duration

You have up to a year to complete this course and we have included a suggested number of study hours. This is usually ample time for learners, even with full-time jobs and other commitments. You will be required to take 3 external exams at a local test centre that correspond with the 3 modules of the course. Modules 1 & 2 are multiple choice questions and Module 3 is a case study and multiple choice test which should take around 2 hours. Your tutor will provide details about exam fees, bookings, and re-sits.

Course Outcomes

At the end of this course, successful learners will receive a Level 3 Certificate in Mortgage Advice and Practice (CeMAP®). Once you have been awarded official certification and can add the designation CeMAP’ after your name, this confirms your qualification to employers and future clients.

You don't need any prior skills in the subject area to start this course but we do recommend an intermediate ability to read and write English and basic maths skills as you will be working with numbers.

You'll sit three CeMAP exams, one after each module. Exams per module cost £185 (VAT exempt) and £150 (VAT exempt) for re-sits.

You will sit the same CeMAP® exams as everyone else, there are 3 of these and they correspond to the three modules of study. The first two exams are multiple choice and the third exam is a case study. Don't worry though, providing you have followed the course, the exams shouldn't be a problem for you.

We provide all the specially written learning materials you require to study this course at home. The course fee also includes tutor support for the specified duration of your course.

No, all of the study materials are supplied within your learning pack.

Most students finish comfortably within the course duration period given. However, if you do need more time, your personal tutor support can be extended for an additional fee.
