You can study completely online in your own time, at your own pace, with the support of beauty professionals whenever you need it. There are also detailed video tutorials to help you master the practical skills.

What you'll learn

Unit 1 - Foundation

To begin, you’ll learn the importance of personal standards, and what is expected of beauty professionals within the industry. You’ll discover the hygiene rules that need to be followed, how to prevent cross contamination, and sanitisation and sterilisation methods. Moving on, you’ll delve into the best ways to communicate with clients, how to build relationships, and how to deal with client dissatisfaction.

Next, you’ll look at business promotion, considering how to price treatments, how to work within a salon, and what life as a self-employed beauty therapist is like. You’ll study how to prepare your work area before a treatment begins, as well as health and safety legislation. After that, you’ll take a look at the importance of insurance, how to gain it, and GDPR. You’ll consider ways to be effective at work, develop great relationships with colleagues, and how you might develop your career as a beauty professional. Finally, you’ll discover how to promote products and services, the importance of reception duties, and how to take payment from clients.

Unit 2 - Anatomy and Physiology

In the second unit, you’ll study the anatomy and physiology of the body and its systems. You’ll examine the circulatory and lymphatic systems, the skeleton, the skin, and muscles.

Unit 3 - Facial and Skincare

In unit three, you’ll move on to the exciting world of facials and skincare. You’ll discover the different types of products and their uses, and facial massage techniques. Lastly, you’ll learn the facial routine, including step-by-step instructions complete with diagrams and a training video.

Unit 4 - Make-Up

In the fourth unit, you’ll learn how to prepare the client and treatment room before makeup application, and which contraindications to check for. You’ll discover how to use and select the correct products for your client, and how to choose makeup that suits different face shapes. Lastly, you’ll explore the correct order in which to apply each product, as well as aftercare advice.

Unit 5 - Spray Tan

Next, you’ll explore the benefits of spray tanning, how it works, as well as important health and safety points to consider. You’ll learn how to identify contraindications in clients, and how to prepare them for treatment. Moving on, you’ll consider special offers you could offer to help promote your business, and the products and equipment you’ll need in order to complete the treatment. Lastly, you’ll discover how to apply spray tan correctly, and the aftercare advice you’ll need to give to your clients.

Unit 6 - Eyelash Extensions

To begin this unit, you’ll discover the benefits of eyelash extensions, and how to complete a patch test and identify contraindications. You’ll learn the correct procedure to prepare for the treatment, and how to apply the extensions. Finally, you’ll be walked through the correct aftercare advice to give your clients, to make sure their extensions last for as long as possible.

Unit 7 - Waxing

In unit seven, you’ll learn a little about the interesting history of waxing, its benefits, and the different types of wax available. Next, you’ll discover how to prepare your client for the treatment, and check for any contraindications. You’ll explore the various products and equipment you might use, how to set up your working area, and how to give your client the perfect waxing treatment.

Unit 8 - Threading

In the final unit, you’ll learn the ancient art of threading. You’ll discover its benefits and disadvantages, the products you’ll require to complete the treatment, and how to select and measure the correct eyebrow shape for your client. You’ll also learn how to prepare and complete a client consultation, check for contraindications, and the learn the correct aftercare routine and advice.

Once you have passed the course, your diploma certificate will be available for download via the online portal. You have lifetime access to the portal so you can return at any time.

How is this course assessed or examined?

Assessed via videos submitted to your tutor and an online assessment at the end of the course. Once you’ve achieved the desired pass percentage, you’ll move on to the next module. Units and tests can be retaken at any time to strengthen your knowledge.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course, however, it is recommended that you have an intermediate ability to read and write English.

What qualifications do you need to be a beauty therapist?

All beauty therapists must hold a level two qualification as a minimum; however, a level three qualification is the best option if you want to jump head-first into the industry.

level three beauty therapy course will give you a well-rounded education on all things beauty related.

Once you’ve secured this and spent some time in the industry, you’ll likely want to specialise in a specific area that may require additional study. As there are so many pathways you can take, you can build a unique career by investing in specific courses.
