What you will learn
Below is an outline of the course material you will study:
Unit 1: Applied anatomy and physiology for activity, health, and fitness
This unit will give you a comprehensive overview of the effect that exercise has on different bodily systems. You’ll cover anatomy, physiology, biomechanics and kinesiology, which will enable you to confidently plan and deliver exercise programmes for clients.
Unit 2: Client motivation and lifestyle management
In unit two, you’ll cover the essential knowledge every personal trainer needs in regards to lifestyle management, as well as how to motivate clients to make and maintain positive long-term changes. You’ll examine the psychological factors that can influence behaviour change, and learn effective intervention strategies that can increase your client’s chances of success.
Unit 3: Programming personal training sessions
Next, you’ll discover how to design, manage, and adapt a personal training programme with adults of all ages. You’ll examine the importance of health screening to identify risks and contraindications, and learn when to signpost clients to other professionals. Moving on, you’ll find out how to tailor exercise programmes to a client’s specific needs, including how to work with clients with low-risk health conditions.
Unit 4: Delivering personal training sessions
This unit will cover all the skills a personal trainer needs to effectively deliver exercise programmes. You’ll discover how to always behave in a professional and appropriate manner, and how to communicate effectively with your clients to make sure they’re fully on board with their exercise plan. You’ll study appropriate teaching methods incorporating a range of techniques, such as cardiovascular and resistance training, as well as how to effectively evaluate your training sessions after they’re over.
Unit 5: Nutrition to support a physical activity programme
The right diet is key to achieving physical fitness. As a personal trainer, you’ll need to be fully aware of current healthy eating guidelines, and understand how to properly communicate this information to your clients. In this unit, you’ll delve into this topic in detail, discovering the effect of nutrition on health, and how diet advice will vary depending on a client’s personal goals.
Unit 6: Business acumen for personal trainers
Now you’ve got the knowledge and the skills, how about setting up your own business? In the final unit, you’ll delve into marketing strategies and techniques, gain a thorough understanding of current legislation and organisational procedures, and study elements of financial planning such as KPIs and balance sheets.
