Unit 1 - Understanding cyber security principles
In this unit you will gain an understanding of cyber security and the consequences and implications of inadequate cyber security. You will understand key terminology and the motivations of good and bad actors. You will also investigate the advantages and disadvantages of security by design.

Unit 2 - Threat intelligence in cybersecurity
In this unit, you will gain an understanding of threat intelligence, Open Source Intelligence, and the importance of using reliable sources of information. You will also understand threat models and the effects of malicious software.

Unit 3 - Cybersecurity testing, vulnerabilities and controls
In unit 3 you will gain an understanding of common types of testing in cyber security including mitigations following testing. You will understand vulnerabilities within cyber security and the steps to be taken when a vulnerability is identified. Also you will gain knowledge of controls within cyber security and will be able to apply a basic control.

Unit 4 - Cyber security incident response
In this unit you will gain an understanding of a cyber security incident response plan and checklist. You will then cover the knowledge required to be able to develop an incident post mortem report.

Unit 5 - Understand legislation and ethical conduct within cyber security
In this unit you will gain an understanding of the legislation surrounding cyber security. You will also be able to understand international law relating to cyber security and the importance of information security standards, moving onto gaining an understanding of ethical conduct within cyber security.

Unit 6 - Professional skills and behaviours for cybersecurity
In unit 6, you will gain an understanding of the behaviours required for a career in cybersecurity. You will also understand security clearance levels and possible employee screening checks that an employer might carry out. You will also understand the skills required for a career in cybersecurity and will be able to assess your own skills. Lastly, you will also understand the importance of continuous professional development.

This course carries UCAS points. This means that it can be used to gain direct access to University courses and other Higher Education, through the UCAS system.
Course Outcome
At the end of this course, successful learners will receive the following qualification: NCFE Level 3 Certificate in Cyber Security Practices . This means that it is independently accredited at a level of learning equivalent to Level 3 on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) for England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

During your course, you will compile a portfolio of evidence demonstrating your learning against various assessment criteria.
Entry requirements
You should have a reasonable ability in IT as the content discusses IT-based topics. There is a minimum study age of 16.
