You may be wondering why three letters could make all the difference. It's the difference between getting the latest qualification or no qualification at all. As of September 1st, 2024, the Diploma in Education & Training (DET) was replaced by the Diploma in Teaching (DiT). So, any students enrolling in the DET qualification after 1st September 2024 will be unable to complete their course as awarding bodies no longer accept registrations for them.

On 1st September 2024 - DiT replaces the older DET course.

Here at Oxbridge, we always want to ensure you have the most current, relevant qualifications for the subject(s) you pursue. We want you to feel confident and knowledgeable in what you do and learn, which is why we've already launched the new Diploma in Teaching qualification.

What is the difference between the Level 5 Diploma in Teaching and the old Level 5 DET?

So, how do the two courses differ? The transition from the Diploma in Education and Training (DET) to the new DiT Course marks a significant update in trainee teachers' qualifications.

Let's start with content - The DET contained general educational content whereas the new DiT includes new topics such as Education for Sustainability, Digital and Online technologies, and Threshold concepts, and Troublesome Knowledge. The focus is on the trainee teacher applying their knowledge to groups of learners 14+.

Next the qualifications standards - The DET is based on previous teaching standards. Whereas the DiT is aligned with the latest LST Occupational Standards.

What about teaching practice? - The DET used to require 100 hours logged practice and 8 observations. The DiT  is 250 hours logged (150 hours teaching practice and 100 hours non-teaching) , and 10 observations.

Why it's important to take a DiT qualification

It is important when looking for your Level 5 Diploma in Teaching, that the course is in-fact a DiT qualification and not a DET qualification. Our enrolments team are available should you be unsure of anything. It is important to us at Oxbridge that the qualification you get is the right one for you, and even if you don't choose to do it with us, we want to make sure you don't get given incorrect information and put on a course you wouldn't be able to complete.
