Oxbridge are still revelling in excitement after being shortlisted for the Greater Birmingham Chamber of Commerce Awards 2018. We secured our place amongst strong competition including Aston University and Millennium Point in the Excellence in Training & Education category. The record number of quality entries was a testament to the institutions and learning providers currently available in Birmingham.

The Skills Gap

Though we’re celebrating the announcement, we understand the importance of our position within the industry, but also our responsibilities to education, Birmingham and its community. We recognise that being nominated is only the first step to bridging the growing skills gap in Birmingham. So, while the banners are still flying, we’ve been identifying ways to meet contemporary workplace demands. We do this by continuing to innovate and provide learners with the right support and qualifications that count. Not just for students but for the development of business growth and economy in Birmingham.

The City has seen some encouraging growth in the last five years, what with the new Conservatoire at Birmingham City University  the greatest in Europe we hear. However, we’ve noticed a decline in the number of Birmingham students achieving five or more GCSEs of grades A*-C in subjects. Therefore, we’re taking this opportunity to showcase the digital revolution and its power to change people’s lives through education. It’s about identifying why pass grades are falling and engaging students with new technological advances that give them a better start in life while eliminating the increasing skills gap.

Awards

We’re looking forward to the ceremony on 19 April, sponsored by HSBC, Birmingham City University and Elonex. Being surrounded by Birmingham’s greatest contemporary thinkers and innovators will provide an enlightening if momentous evening.
