Is Distance Learning Easy for mature students?

Distance learning is great for mature students. It allows many of the fears associated with change to be completely eradicated. There is no typical mature student. Mature students are defined as any student aged 21 or over at the start of their studies. Just over a half are aged between 21 and 24, 38 percent between 25 and 39, and 10 per cent are over 40 when they commence their courses. (Reference: UCAS)

So, Is Distance Learning Easy?

When you think of life as a student do you think back to days gone by? Sitting, not really knowing what was going on and importantly not really caring? Shakespeare, Mountains, Newtons Law? Adult learning is not about fitting in with an existing model of education. Distance Learning is flexible. It is tailored to the learner and more popular than ever. No longer is learning just done at school or college. More and more workplaces are offering training and further opportunities at education. Distance learning is usually studying a subject you are passionate about.

Distance Learning and Mature students

More adults than ever are studying online. Distance learning is the gateway to getting new qualifications or going to university. In fact, UCAS has revealed that 1 in 3 new students at university is a mature student. Despite the ease of distance learning the courses and outcomes are comparable and often exceed more traditional colleges.

Effective Employees

The average adult learner is more committed to studying and comes with valuable skills and life experience. It’s also important for the UK economy that older workers continue to update their skills, making them more dedicated and effective employees.

Distance Learning why not?

Although learning in later life is now more accessible than ever, on your tablet or home PC, online learning is accessible at any time, when it’s most convenient to you. Here are some of the most common worries we hear:

“I’m too old”

Many people worry that they will be the oldest in the class, or won’t fit into the student experience. With Distance Learning its important to remember that there are no classes to attend and our tutors work with you on a one-on-one basis. However old you are, it’s not too old to improve.

“I’m lacking confidence”

A lack of confidence is a big thing for so many. However, you are already here reading this, you’ve made the first steps in the right direction. Our distance learning courses are designed to be completed in your own time and at your own pace. Once you have completed a module; you submit your work, once submitted you await your feedback. There are no deadlines or classes to attend.

“Setting goals is the first step in turning the invisible into the visible” – Tony Robbins

“I have too many responsibilities”

Many mature students have responsibilities outside of their studies, including children, relationships and work. There will never be an ideal time to take that leap. We think to be busy in the short-term, will be worth it in the long-term, as career opportunities begin to materialise.
