Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP)

In unit two, you’ll firstly study how human beings process information. You’ll delve into the seven meta-programs, different learning styles, the five senses, and discover how eye movement offers clues as to what a person is thinking. Next, you’ll consider how our beliefs affect our state of mind and our thoughts. You’ll learn what ‘anchors’ are, how presuppositions can create irrational or unhelpful thought cycles, as well as how to reframe negative experiences. Moving on, you’ll study communication skills and methods, including body language and voice tonality, the language of open questions, and how to respond positively to clients. Lastly, you’ll study the concept of neuroplasticity, and how you as an NLP practitioner can help clients to change their way of thinking.

In unit three, you’ll delve into the ways in which dissociation can help to change the meaning of a situation, positive psychology and the science of happiness, and tips to boost self-esteem and confidence. Next, you’ll consider time management and productivity, focusing on goal planning and key techniques for productivity. Finally, you’ll look at the importance of good record keeping, and how to keep logs to measure a client’s progress.

In unit four, you’ll look at some effective techniques for dealing with problems that clients might be facing, such as anxiety. You’ll also study the ‘seven steps to solving problems and finding solutions’. After, you’ll consider two video case studies, the first concerning a stay at home mother seeking to up her confidence, and the second detailing the struggles of a father struggling with commitment issues following a difficult divorce. Your job will be to consider how NLP could help them both.

Supervision is important in all areas of counselling, and it’s equally important within NLP. In the final unit, you’ll learn why supervision is so crucial, and how it can help you to develop as a practitioner. You’ll also discover why it’s important to form and maintain boundaries with clients. Finally, you’ll move on to the business principles you’ll need to be familiar with in your new profession, from creating a website, to honing your mission statement.
