What you will learn
Below is an outline of the course material you will study:
Unit 1: Child development from conception to 7 years
In this unit, you’ll learn about the stages, sequences, and theories of development, from conception, all the way to childhood. You’ll explore what makes a healthy pregnancy, the factors that might influence fetal development, and exactly what influences the health and behaviour of a child as they learn and grow. Next, you’ll study the role of the practitioner, and the impact they can have upon learning about physical, cognitive, and language development. You’ll discover the importance of developing a close working relationship with parents and colleagues, as well as which professionals you should go to for help when you need it.
Unit 2: Children's health and well-being
In this unit, you’ll look at the ways you can support children’s needs and wellbeing. You’ll look at the ways in which attachments and secure relationships are formed, as well as gain a solid understanding of ‘attachment theory’. You’ll explore everything the effect a child’s environment has on their physical wellbeing, the importance of sleep, and SIDS risk factors. Finally, you’ll delve into diet and nutrition, how to plan a weaning programme, and the benefits of exercise for children.
Course Outcome
At the end of this course, successful learners will receive the following qualification: NCFE CACHE Level 3 Award in Childcare and Education. This means that it is independently accredited at a level of learning equivalent to Level 3 on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) for England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
NCFE CACHE has been developing courses in the childcare, education and healthcare sectors since 1945 and is one of the most reputable awarding bodies for qualifications in the UK and overseas. Practitioners working in these areas are much more employable having gained NCFE CACHE certification and many employers specifically ask for their qualifications when taking on members of staff.
Examinations and Assessments
Students must pass two mandatory units to complete this course. Each module is followed by a written assignment which will be marked by your personal tutor and graded from A*-D. You won’t need to take an exam.
Entry Requirements
We recommend that you hold level 2 qualifications in English and maths such as GCSEs or functional skills. There is a minimum study age of 16.
