The history of ACCA courses

The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) was founded in 1904 with the goal of widening access to the accountancy profession. It is now one of the world's most forward-thinking professional accountancy bodies, with over 252,500 members and 526,000 students in 180 countries.

From its inception, ACCA has been a pioneer in the field, becoming the first accountancy body to admit women in 1909 and continually evolving to meet the profession's needs. Key milestones include the introduction of the Certified Accounting Technician qualification in 1997 and launching the ACCA-X digital learning platform in 2015.

Today, ACCA is known for its commitment to inclusivity, innovation, and excellence in accountancy. It provides a range of qualifications that are highly valued by employers and supports its members with continuous professional development opportunities. The organisation also actively engages in advocacy and thought leadership to shape the profession's future.

Through its subsidiary, the Institute of Accounting Staff, the AAT was formed in 1980. You might want to check out a closely related CIMA course offering too.
