In this unit, you will be able to understand the legal checks required when selecting candidates. They will also explore legal rules relating to requesting and providing references. They will also understand the basic rules of the formation of a contract of employment

Unit 3 - The employment relationship
In this unit, learners will be able to understand basic rules of contract in relation to employment contracts. You will also know how the courts establish if there is a valid employer/employee relationship. Also looking at the key rights of an employee

Unit 4 - Key rights of an employee and the corresponding duties of the employer
In this unit, you will specifically understand employee rights relating to pay and conditions. Then explore employee rights relating to working hours, maternity and paternity. You will also know what are the protected characteristics and understand the legal rules relating to discrimination in the workplace

Unit 5 - Termination of Employment
In this unit you will understand the circumstances in which a contract of employment can be terminated. This will include understanding the factors that result in an unfair dismissal and also knowing the legal rules relating to redundancy

Unit 6 - Health and Safety and liability for accidents in the workplace.
In this final unit you will explore the statutory requirements under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. You will also understand the legal rules that establish a claim in negligence relating to personal injury or property damage in the workplace.

There are no formal entry requirements for this course; however, it is recommended that you have an intermediate ability to read and write English.
Progression Routes
Learners who complete this course may want to undertake A-level Law, NCFE Level 3 Diploma in Skills for Business: Human Resources, Human Resources Management Level 4 and/or Level 5, which will all be valuable qualifications in your employment law career.
