The approximate guided hours for this course is 100-110 hours.

Study Method

Throughout this course, you may be expected to complete assignments, essays, research projects, posters, leaflets, presentations, PowerPoint presentations, video/audio recordings, work-based and practical learning sessions to meet the requirements of your course. This is a blended learning course, which means some of your study will be done at home, some will be done face to face with your tutor, and all of your practical assessment will take place at our Birmingham-based assessment centre. All information about your course will be included in your study pack detailing exactly what you need to do to accomplish your goals as a student.

Course Duration

You have up to a year to complete this course, this is usually ample time for learners, even with full time jobs and other commitments. However, should you require long, please contact one of our course advisers with regards to an extension.


Each unit is followed by a written tutor-marked assignment (TMA), which is submitted and then marked by your tutor. You will not be required to take an external exam.

Course Outcomes

At the end of this course successful learners will receive an NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Leading Health-Related Activity Sessions (RQF). This means that you will achieve a Level 2 qualification on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) for England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Your qualification is accredited by NCFE, one of the UK’s leading Ofqual approved awarding bodies in the health, fitness and active leisure sector. This qualification will provide level 2 entry onto the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs). REPs are an independent public register which provides regulation for instructors and trainers to ensure that they meet National Occupational Standards agreed by the health and fitness industry. This will enable you to obtain public liability insurance to practice as a Gym Instructor.

Membership with REPs is valued and respected, enhancing employability, and is recognised in Europe, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.

Difficulty - Level 2

Entry requirements - Students must be 16+ to enrol on this course, as to the nature of the course a degree of physical fitness is desirable to complete the practical assessments. It is also recommended that you have some experience of gym-based exercise, including free weights, and basic level communication and personal skills. You will also have had to complete a suitable Level 2 qualification in Gym Instructing
