The guided learning hours for this course is 157 hours. However, there may be additional hours required for additional research and writing.
You have up to a year to complete this course, this is usually ample time for learners, even with full time jobs and other commitments. However, should you require long, please contact one of our course advisers with regards to an extension.
Throughout this course, you may be expected to complete assignments, essays, research projects, posters, leaflets, presentations, PowerPoint presentations, video/audio recordings, work-based and practical learning sessions to meet the requirements of your course. This is a blended learning course, which means some of your study will be done at home, some will be done face to face with your tutor, and all of your practical assessment will take place at our Birmingham-based assessment centre.

This course is assessed in three different ways: 2 two multiple-choice examinations, a practical assessment and a portfolio which you work on during your course. Successful completion of all six units must be achieved for the full qualification.
On the assessment day, you will complete the remaining mandatory units of your course with your course tutor. These units will be 1, 4 and 6. Our practical days run on an “on demand” basis in small groups. You may have to wait a short time while we fill the other practical spaces. Our assessment centre is based in Birmingham. How many times you’ll need to come to our assessment centre in Birmingham will relate to how well you progress on your course. On the days where you attend to partake in your practical assessments/exams at our centre, you will complete the following:

At the end of this course, successful learners will receive an Active IQ Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instruction. This means that you will achieve a Level 2 qualification on the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) for England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Your qualification is accredited by Active IQ, one of the UK’s leading Ofqual approved awarding bodies in the health, fitness and active leisure sector. This qualification will provide level 2 entry onto the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs). REPs are an independent public register which provides regulation for instructors and trainers to ensure that they meet National Occupational Standards agreed by the health and fitness industry. This will enable you to obtain public liability insurance to practice as a Gym Instructor.
Membership with REPs is valued and respected, enhancing employability, and is recognised in Europe, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.
You will have access to your personal tutor, via email and telephone, who will mark your assignments and guide you through the course. In addition, you will be supplied with a comprehensive Study Guide which will help you through the study and assessment process. Your personal tutor will be highly experienced in their subject area and qualified to teach.
You don’t need any prior skills in the subject area to start. However, as with all of our courses, we recommend a reasonable level of English reading and writing ability.
We provide all the specially written learning materials you require to study this course at home. The course fee also includes tutor support for 12 months.

In addition to your course fee, you will need to pay £100 for each assessment day you attend. How many days you need to attend will be dependent on how you progress on the course, students normally need between 1-3 assessment dates.
Yes, there will be short tests that you will sit on your assessment day in order to pass this qualification.
The theory aspect of the course, which takes the majority of the study hours can be completed from anywhere in world. However, you will need to be able to attend our practical assessment day based in Birmingham, UK to complete your qualification.
